60's dresses

Alright everyone!

I'm back! So as I did my previous post on winter boots I thought that I would blog about the 60's- one of my favourite era's in fashion instead of a specific form of fashion. Consequently my favourite iconic garments of the 1960's are the dresses and since I barely ever wear trousers I have quite a collection in my wardrobe. So, I thought I would give all of you an insight into my favorite style of dress as it's on trend at the moment so its an easy purchase to find whilst you're shopping around the high streets or at high end boutiques!

I absolutely adore 1960's fashion, with models such as Twiggy and designers like Mary Quant. I love how the 60's mixed elegance and class with a twist of girlishness and fun. It's no surprise then, that my favorite part of 60's fashion are the dresses! Shift, smock and mini are some of I believe the most versatile for everyday life.

I hope this blog will give you some ideas on how to wear the 1960's style in modern 2014 and show examples of  how you might want to mix all the different fashions as there are so many ways to incorporate the 60's into a day time or night time style.

Here are the websites for what I am wearing (please bear in mind that some of the items are from previous seasons but I have had a mooch around and there are still the same designs of garments for sale):

Shift Dresses

This is a shift dress from Urban Outfitters, I got it in the 2013 winter sale and it is very versatile. I highly recommend when buying a shift dress that you chose a pattern and design that will go with many things!
For this outfit i have put a black shirt under the
dress making it warmer, but also bringing out the
colours in the pattern of a dress.

I added a denim jacket from Topshop which has a fur lining so it is very cosy, brilliant for this time of year as it is freezing cold here in the UK at the moment! However you could wear this outfit in the summer with a light weight denim and it would look just as lovely.

Smock dresses!
I have two types of smock dresses as they are my favorite 60's style. My first dress is a mustard yellow one from H&M- it may not be the most versatile of colours but the style is very feminine and floaty which I love! The second is a sky blue lace smock dress from one of my favorite clothing brands- Yumi. The lace adds a feminine touch and the buttons give more dimension, as there is a danger with smock dresses that they can look slightly like a bag  if the dress has been badly designed, so be careful when choosing your smock dress.
Without any accessories- simple and elegant!
This is my favorite way to wear this dress, by adding a tailored fit of a blazer it slims the dress
giving it more structure, as well as a feminine and curvaceous silhouette. The blazer also smartens the outfit and is a classic jacket that everyone should own because its so versatile Mine is from Jack Wills and is navy blue tweed.

Adding a black leather jacket instantly smartens the outfit and
adds a structured shape to the smock style. This jacket is
from Miss Selfridge.

This is what i normally pair with this dress as here in the UK a raincoat is a must.
I love this Coat from Barbour, it has lasted me for years so it is definitely worth the extra money!
Thank you for reading, if you found this useful or think I could improve in some areas please let me know in the comments- I would love to hear your opinions!

I'll see you soon...
