Fashion weeks

Alright Everyone,

As you may have realized over the previous few weeks it has been fashion mania across the globe. Beginning with New York, then London, Paris and finishing in Milan.

I know I'm a little late to the party with this post but I just couldn't resist doing something on fashion week and thought if anything it might give you all a few ideas  for some simple outfits.

So, to pay homage to one of my most anticipated times of the year, I thought that I would show you all my favourite look from a catwalk from each city and how I have used this look as inspiration for my everyday style, particularly as the weather is still quite chilly here in the UK.

New York

I'll be the first to admit that I am a sucker for tartan and tweed. If I had a chance I would most probably wear one or the other every day, in fact... I probably do wear tartan and tweed every day. However, I am also a sucker for berry and mustard tones during the Autumn and winter months as you may have guessed from my posts during that time. So, its no surprise that the Tommy Hilfiger Autumn/Winter collection was my favourite of New York fashion week.

I particularly took inspiration from the colours and fabric used by Hilfiger going for a mustard dress and tweed berry toned blazer. However, I wanted to take an alternative route on the silhouette I created with my outfit. I particularly like boho, ethereal style hence I opted for a smock style dress. Although I also wanted to create a little bit of a more androgynous shape so I chose a boyfriend fit blazer, rather than a longer style, belted coat like that used by Hilfiger. I particularly like boyfriend fit blazers as they help to add structure to my slim shoulders. As you may notice they are a theme running through this weeks blog.

London

Did I mention that I have a thing for tartan?

Good ole Mulberry, they always seem to just get it spot on!

I adore this collection, the colours, textures and shapes are all beautiful.  They seem to encompass my Autumn and Winter style to perfection. However, I have to say that I particularly love the coat and shoes.

So to interpret this look, I focused on the use of navy and tartan as my key inspiration. I opted for a similar navy woolen jumper dress as seen on the model. However, I decided to pair it with a bright red blazer instead, which I think just injects a bit of colour into the look. To reflect the tartan theme I went for an old vintage tartan scarf I found in a thrift store which picks up on the red and blue colours I used for the basis of my look. I couldn't resist taking inspiration from the cute little dolly shoes and so, to complete the outfit I wore my own bright blue pair.

Paris

Ahh, sigh.

This dress is honestly breathtaking. Can you just imagine walking into a ballroom dressed in this beaded, chiffon masterpiece? Your life would be complete... well, mine would anyhow! It looks like it just walked out of the pages of 'The Selection' (A book I highly recommend, if you haven't already read it)

Sorry, back to reality..
As I previously mentioned I am very into boho and ethereal looking fabrics and this dress in particular really encompasses those two things. So it was the perfect choice from the Valentino collection for me to take inspiration from.

I specifically focused on taking inspiration form the drape of the fabric used in the dress, hence I opted for a very floaty almost Goddess-like dress from the White Company. I felt the grey of the dress really reflected the pale, wintry tones used in the Valentino collection. Although, much like the first outfit I wanted to create a little bit more structure to my silhouette so I paired the dress with a navy tweed, boyfriend fit blazer from Jack Wills.

Milan

Okay, so I sense you may have guessed the boho theme running through each of my favourite looks...

This one from Vivetta has more of a folk style edge rather than the ethereal feel of the previous few looks but I still class it as part of the boho category!

Whilst I have a love of floaty dresses and skirts I am also a big fan of structured bodices. In fact there is a beautiful bodice dress from Jack Wills that I have been lusting after since their summer collection came out- http://www.jackwills.com/en-gb/product/aldgate-bodice-dress-10000752703 What do you guys think? Maybe when I get my next pay check!

I wanted to focus on the floral element of the look created by Vivetta so I opted for a beautiful, floaty button up dress from Hollister. I love the soft but structured silhouette the dress creates similar to that of Vivetta. However, in contrast to the shirt worn underneath the dress I wanted to go for a more laid back and cosy pairing to the dress. Hence, I opted for my long, thick mint green cardigan.
