An Auburn hat

Alright everyone!

Portabello Market, the quirky, eclectic and diverse treasure of London. Its cobbled streets and vibrant street sellers entices any who endeavour to take a trip to the capital.

The classic multicoloured doorways greet you as you mount the steps from the tube station. In the Autumn sunshine they almost glitter, providing an insight into what is to come as you wonder further down the well known road of Portabello. Its so peaceful there in the late afternoon, away from the hustle and bustle of the busy London roads you have chance to breathe and think. Its the one place in London where I can hear myself sigh as I take in the classic architecture and inviting market stalls which line the road.

It was when doing this that I noticed the vast array of hatstands, with more colours and styles than I care to imagine and having been on the hunt for a hat since I arrived in London, I was naturally drawn to them. There were blues, dusky pinks, mustard's, browns and reds. But the hat which caught my eye was an auburn burnt orange felt floppy one hidden away behind all the others. It was that colour which transforms an outfit, so unusual for a hat and one which I had never seen before. Naturally I bought it before any one else could find it and steal it away from me.

It was a few weeks later when I returned to the South West that the perfect day to wear it arrived. I was off to a gig and everyone knows what an evening at a concert or gig often entails... long, reflective and ponderous thoughts on what one should wear. This was, unfortunately for me, no different as I stood staring at my wardrobe for a good twenty minuets questioning why I can never, from my over excessive collection of clothing work out an outfit for a special occasion!

Give me a dress and an over sized jumper and 'Bob's your Uncle' but the pressure of an occasion and all this is out of the window. The trauma often ends with me sighing and reaching for my comfort blanket- a dress with a pair of boots and a blazer just to smarten it up and be a little more adventurous.
However today I endeavoured to go against the grain and my natural instinct, to try something new!

This resulted in me pulling my hat from the top of the mirror where it resides on a day to day basis and using it as my foundation. I wore it with my Jackwills.com playsuit which I found in the Autumn sale, my amazing cosy tights from Primark (an item which everyone must own!), a pair of tan Fatface.com Chelsea boots and the softest, warmest cardigan I have ever had the privilege of wearing, also from Fatface.com.My Autumnal/gig/concert outfit was complete.

I hope that you have enjoyed today's blog and you might now be enticed to take a trip to Notting Hill or try wearing something a little unusual and out of your comfort zone (its not as bad as you may imagine!) or that you just enjoyed my descriptive ramble. In any case I shall see you very soon!

P.S. my eyesight seems to have gotten a lot worse lately and consequently terrible for seeing anything, let alone a band a fair distance away- hence the glasses!
